An ice dam is a dangerous buildup of ice that typically forms at the edges of a roof. It’s caused by melting snow that runs down to the eaves where it refreezes. Gradually this can create a barrier that traps additional melted snow and prevents it from draining off the roof.
That water can find its way under the shingles and into your home, potentially causing damage to the roof, walls, ceilings, insulation, and other parts of the structure.
