Job description:
Lead a High-Performance Team Building Exceptional Outdoor Living Spaces
Are you the kind of person who shows up every day ready to lead, build, and take ownership? Deck Teck — Maine’s leader in high-end deck construction and restoration — is looking for an experienced Lead Carpenter to take the reins on job sites and help drive our continued growth across Southern Maine and New Hampshire.
This isn’t just a carpentry job. We’re looking for an A-player — someone with sharp skills, a great attitude, and the drive to hold a high standard for themselves and the people around them. We’re a small company that thinks big. We’ve been in business since 2014 and we’re constantly improving how we build, how we operate, and how we deliver for our clients — and we’re looking for someone who’s wired the same way. If you get genuine satisfaction from solving problems, finding a better way to do things, and pushing the quality of your work forward every day, you’ll feel right at home here.
What You’ll Do
- Lead a small crew through deck builds from start to finish — footings, framing, and finish work — while maintaining Deck Teck’s quality standard on every project.
- Own the job site: manage daily workflow, keep the team focused and efficient, and ensure work is completed on schedule.
- Prepare deck construction plans for new deck builds.
- Manage the permit/inspection process from application through job completion.
- Accurately order materials for each job.
- Evaluate and perform structural repairs and restorations on existing decks.
- Restore and refinish wood surfaces including sanding and staining.
- Oversee and perform pressure washing and soft washing services on homes, decks, and patios.
- Be the face of Deck Teck on every job site — communicating proactively with clients, setting clear expectations, and solving problems before they become issues.
- Train and mentor crew members, reinforcing best practices and a culture of craftsmanship.
What You Bring
- Proven experience in deck construction or carpentry — you’ve done this before and done it well.
- Experience leading or supervising (even informally).
- The ability to read and interpret construction plans.
- Solid understanding of deck structural principles.
- Familiarity with building permit process and the ability to prepare basic plans.
- Mastery of power tools and precision cutting and installation.
- Physical ability to lift materials, work at heights, and perform outdoor work year-round.
- A sharp eye for detail and a genuine passion for quality work.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills — you think on your feet.
- A coachable, ego-free attitude — you’re confident in your skills but always open to feedback and new ways of doing things.
- The drive to work efficiently and the awareness to spot a better way of doing things.
What We Offer
- $40+/hr base pay plus potential for performance bonuses.
- Health insurance
- 401(k) with employer match (4%)
- Paid holidays and PTO
- Tips — customers often tip us after a job is completed and 100% of it is split evenly among the crew on that job.
- Modern, high-quality tools and equipment provided
- This role grows with the company — as we scale, so does your responsibility and earning potential. We’re building something here and we want the right person growing alongside us.
- A tight-knit, team that takes real pride in what they build
